Presentation of the healthcare professional

Bernard Laurent is professor of neurology and specialist in neuropsychology which he practiced at the CHU in St Etienne for 30 years; former president of the neuropsychology society, member of the Académie de Médecine, he is the author of numerous articles and books on memory and Alzheimer's disease (see appendix on the challenges of diagnosis).

Sandrine Basaglia-Pappas, who holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Speech Therapy and a Master's Degree in Psychology (Neuropsychology option), and a PhD in Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology, has worked with adults suffering from vascular and degenerative aphasia (primary progressive aphasia, Alzheimer's disease, etc.), as well as with children suffering from dyslexia-dysorthographia, memory disorders and attention deficit disorders (ADHD). She specializes in language, memory and executive functions. (see APP presentation in appendix).

Main service: memory consultation
we offer this consultation to provide patients with answers to their questions concerning memory difficulties (forgetting appointments, difficulties managing administrative papers, forgetting objects, distractions, etc.) or language difficulties (such as lack of words). Are these disorders related to normal aging or to an incipient pathology? In the case of sequelae (traumatic or vascular), is the disorder limited to one area or several, and depending on the neuropsychological assessment, what help can be offered ... what prognosis can be made in terms of work?

Degenerative pathologies concerned: screening for degenerative diseases (mild neurocognitive disorders, Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal degeneration, degenerative aphasia, Balint syndrome, and other focal dementias).
but also non-degenerative: after-effects of stroke, head trauma, encephalitis, tumors, multiple sclerosis...

Clinical identification test (to determine whether a neuropsychological assessment is useful)

Organization of consultations :

A consultation will first be proposed by Professor Bernard Laurent, who will carry out an interview with a neurological assessment in the form of questionnaires and a summary of clinical elements (treatments, history of illnesses) and an initial neuropsychological assessment lasting around an hour. Professor Laurent may ask Sandrine Basaglia-Pappas to carry out an additional neuropsychological assessment, in order to clarify any cognitive difficulties. This assessment can be carried out in a single two-hour consultation. A second appointment, lasting an hour or two, may be proposed depending on the assessments requested by the neurologist (long-term memory, language, etc.). Following these assessments, the practitioners will work together to establish a diagnosis. Finally, a summary of the assessments will be given to the patient during a "consultation-synthesis" with the neurologist.

Reports: each consultation is followed by a report sent to the patient.

Imaging: Professor Laurent will be able to interpret the CT or MRI scans sent in advance via dismed.
